Dr. Vijayendra Murthy is Head of Faculty of Ayurvedic Medicine at Welllpark College of Natural Therapies in Auckland . He has taught and practiced Ayurveda for more than 14 years. He takes a leading role in Ayurvedic curriculum development and is known as an educational expert who bridges eastern and western systems of learning, integrating the traditional model of Gurukula teaching with the needs of contemporary western tertiary degree programs. Dr. Murthy is a charismatic teacher of Ayurveda. In the early 90s he taught and practiced Ayurveda in India and was a presenter of health programs on Indian Television and Radio. He completed his 9 years of study with a Master Degree in Ayurveda from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore by conducting a clinical study on advanced cancer of the Cervix.

During 4 years of Head of Ayurveda at Wellpark Dr. Murhty has more than tripled the student numbers in Ayurveda at Wellpark College offering a one year Diploma of Ayurvedic Lifestyle Management and a three years Diploma of Ayurvedic Medicine.

Dr. Murthy' integrates the clinical and the spiritual aspects of Ayurveda and promotes the wellbeing- along with clinical model of Ayurveda. His key to teaching Ayurveda lies within the original Vedic

scriptures and his novel interpretation of the Vedas reveals a striking contemporary relevance making his teaching particularly relevant for students in western countries.

In 2006 Dr. Murthy was invited to the panel of experts, appointed for accrediting the Bachelor's degree in Natural therapies by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. He is the co- chairperson of The New Zealand Ayurvedic Practitioners' Association.
