Dr Swami Shankardev Saraswati is an eminent yoga Acharya (authority), medical doctor, yoga therapist and internationally acclaimed author. As a direct disciple of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, he lived in the Bihar School of Yoga India for 10 years (1974-1985), where he was trained to teach the highest practices of yoga-tantra and played an important role in the development of Satyananda Yoga.

Dr Swami Shankardev's innovative teachings integrate western psychological medicine and psychotherapy with eastern methods of mind-body development. He shows great skill in communicating complex esoteric concepts with simplicity, ease, humour and compassion, helping others to bring deep wisdom and higher knowledge into their every day lives.

The culmination of his 30-year medical career and his extensive esoteric studies has formed a revolutionary and authentic approach to total health. Dr Swami Shankardev has the unique ability to clearly illustrate the mind-body connection and it's role in illness.

As a medical therapist Swami Shankardev specialised in the treatment and rehabilitation of chronic physical and mental conditions. He has motivated and inspired patients to regard illness and pain as an integral part of their life journey, to find meaning in all of life's experiences, and to explore their own creative solutions.

A highly sought-after teacher, Dr Swami Shankardev has toured extensively throughout India , Europe, the USA and Australia teaching yoga, meditation, psychology, philosophy, yoga therapy, and Ayurveda. Dr Swami Shankardev is a senior teacher of Yogic Studies and the 3 year Teacher Training Courses for Satyananda Yoga Academies ( Australia & India ). Over the years he played a key role in developing Satyananda Yoga by devising course content, and authoring and editing many books for the Bihar School of Yoga. His in-print books on yoga therapy include: Yogic Management of Asthma and Diabetes, The Effects of Yoga on Hypertension, and The Practices of Yoga for the Digestive System.

Dr Swami Shankardev is presently developing several training courses, books and guided practice CDs to support students in healing and self-knowledge.
